Police stated that victims could not yet be officially identified due to severe burns sustained in Sunday’s accident in the Brazilian city.
At least six individuals died in Brazil on Sunday following a collision between two helicopters in western Rio de Janeiro, according to firefighters.
The helicopters struck the parking lot of an electric car dealership, sparking a blaze that consumed at least 20 vehicles.
A firefighter statement indicated that preliminary reports suggest a mid-air collision occurred, confirming “six fatalities have been confirmed, all were crew members of the aircraft involved in the accident”.
Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere noted there were “foreign nationals on board one of the aircraft”, but offered no additional specifics.
Police reported that American alternative singer and internet personality Oliver Tree, currently on a global tour, is listed among six individuals on a manifest provided by a police source. The source noted that victims could not be formally identified yet because they were severely burned in the crash.
The passengers traveling with the singer included a Brazilian music producer, an Argentine video director, and Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim, known online as “Gaspi”.
